More Brief Bio's...

For those of you who haven't shared yours yet and would like to!
Also, what is everyone's first name (those with google addresses that aren't their name)... if you are comfortable sharing
Erin or Mike, could we have a label on the Kitchen cabinets just for "Brief Bio's" so anyone who hasn't can add theirs if they want?
The original brief Bio's are here

I can go back and convert each of those into a separate post under the heading of Bio's if that is what everybody wants to do.

Let me know

great idea! i had thought of something similar. a "directory" of sorts, i guess, for newcomers to share more about themselves as well as find out about those who are already here. i do think a heading for "bio's" is a good way to do that.

i have also thought about incorporating some sort of "directory" for our personal pages as well. each of us has a unique voice, and each of our personal pages usually has a different "slant" to it, so to speak. hmmm. some way for people to find small community within the greater community and hook up with people and pages that suit them where they are at right now.... it kind of just a nebulous concept swirling around inside.

would the two fit together in some way, or should they be separate? or should we have the latter at all?

Jon ~ The links to the pages is actually done already in the siblings column. Click on a name and it takes one right to their site. I don't know that it would matter or not if we actually put the names of the sites in there or not. I'll have to take inventory of everyone who is here to make sure that they are all listed in the sibling column.

I'll get to work over my weekend trying to make the bio pages a reality.

Good idea, Mike I like it! Could we make it in such a way as for siblings to be able to add to their bio if they feel want to. I guess it would have to be that person's post though, huh?

YEAH, WE NEED MORE FEEDBACK!!

But for now we could just have a brief bio's cabinet... for easy access.

Another great idea!

often times my brain goes way beyond K.I.S.S. (which, for those who don't know, stands for 'Keep It Simple Stupid')

i know we have the sibling list and i am grateful for it. i think i use it more often now than my own list. and it is the best way for people to visit another's personal page.

i was thinking more in terms of "categorization", i guess. but that is for much farther down the road, if needed. there are not so many folk here yet that we need that kind of a system. a little over the top right now, methinks.

i, myself, was also echoing manu's thoughts on bio's being editable. and just how to do that smoothly. so that each person's bio can be its own entity. i'll keep thinking about it.

any more feedback on this idea from anyone else? yea? nay?

Jon, I have that figured already. Over the weekend, I will be posting each persons bio into a post and labeling. Then I will post a tutorial on how to edit a post so that everyone can update their own bios and change the time and date of the post to make it more current.

getting there said...

Excellent! :)

I love the idea of bio pages, but I have no further input on that.

But did I just hear Jon use the word "system"? I'm shocked! ;-)

hey now. i don't know if i've ever come out and said that i am 100% against systems in and of themselves. if i did, then i was speaking out of youthful ignorance. the world simply cannot function on complete chaos all the time. for example, i like knowing that my car is going to be where i left it last night the next morning. or my work, for example. if the kitchen was in complete disarray, if people didn't know what to do, how to do it, when to do it, or how to execute their jobs in a harmonious dance with one another, it would be a nightmare. i am all for functional systems that benefit the needs of the group at large.

that being said, i am against most of the world systems that are in place because they seek to gain control of individuals for no other reason than to grind them up and make them slaves to benefit a very small percentage of the earth's population. a small group of greedy power hungry men who seemingly have no love or compassion for others. yes, i am definitely against those systems.

but, and this is a big BUT, as the hippies found out in the late '60s, you need to have a system to replace the corrupt one you wish to leave. you need to have something functional to go to. it was fine for them to drop out of society and stop engaging, but they had nothing to replace it with. simply hundreds of thousands of teenagers and young twenty-somethings who had no means of being self-sustainable, living in chaos. it could only last a short time.

whereas the ones who formed communes and communities like that had "systems" to keep them functioning properly so everyone was pitching in. but they were free of the world's systems that were not of their own design. some of them still exist today.

that's all i'm trying to pitch in and help accomplish here. a smooth and functional experience for the community.

(was that overkill?) :-)

"was that overkill?"

Yes, Jon.

I was just teasing, because it struck me as funny in the moment. Sorry if it set you off. ;-)
