Kenya

Hey guys this is not a request for personal prayer but for an entire country. Alomost 6 years ago my hubby went to Kenya on a missions trip. Here he met a pastor called Aamos. Aamos lives in Nirobi slums with his family and does his best to in rich those around him whilst struggling to survive himself. He just popped up on my facebook chat thing and I did the socially acceptable thing and asked him how he was. He proceeded to tell me that Kenya is in the grip on a huge famon and 1000s die everyday and that he and his family are on the brink themselves. What do you say in response to that other than I ll pray. I feel usless and like a rich fat cat! Please can you pray for this country and this man
thx

I always find it odd...cruel, really that parts of the world can have so much food while others are starving...how come we don't just send it over? If we do, how come it doesn't work? Where does it all go? It seems so simple, but it never comes out that way...

The US no longer has food supplies to send overseas because of Ethanol production. Grains that were once used to feed the poor of the world are being transformed into fuel for our cars. The press does not cover it, because being green has taken precedence over feeding people and because the left is so heavily invested in anti-oil politics. But many politicians are beginning to wake up and see that Ethanol is hurting people all over the world now.

I wonder too, if the aid we do send doesn't get to the people who need it most because of corruption?

That's heartbreaking, Lou. I will pray.

Hmm...I wonder about this...I know ethanol is a crock of shit because my husband works in the ag world, and I also know that the green BS has taken precedence over most of what makes logical sense.

I didn't mean that to sound so harsh...and I'm all for conservation...I even reuse ziplock bags...but I just meant that I agree with you, TD, on that issue!

The whole ethanol thing is just kinda creepy. Our radio stations have been covering it on occasions, and it's just plain bizarre when you look at it.

Still, I hate to be cynical but even without the whole ethanol thing, there was still enough food being produced to feed the world several tiems over, and it just didn't get there.

I often wonder what the bureaucratic elements are to that, and whether there is any way they could be swum under? I wonder if people who were not organisations all banded together, if the red tape could be avoided. I don't know. It's depressing.

I know of a man in Kenya who some people associated with Wayne Jacobsen's Lifestream and The God Journey have been helping out. It's been a really cool thing to see, people-to-people style, without all the ensuing red tape. Is there any way this man could be helped, Lou?

It is not a true famine ... but if the political unrest persists the farmers will not be able to get back to their land to ready it for the crops that need to go in soon.

I don't get these leaders that interrupt the food supply to a nation. Very selfish power hungry weirdos.

But that is civil war for you ...

This web site may help.

There is so much horrendous suffering in Africa... In Sudan and Ethiopia people and children starve in masses. There's so much pain...it's beyond staggering... and now Kenya is also being hit.
God, help...how can we help?!
